Debra Hendricks Owner/Director/Teacher
Debra Hendricks's passion for dance began when she took her first dance class at the age of three and she hasn't stopped dancing since. She trained at Mary Allaire's School of Dance and Dance by Design until she graduated from high school. She also caught the acting bug in high school when she won best actress for Noises Off. After high school, Debra opened her own summer dance studio where she taught ballet/Pointe, tap, jazz and hip hop, and went to Midland College from 2003 to 2005 and got her Associates in Theatre.
After Midland College, Debra went to Texas State University to continue training in dance and acting. She trained in modern, ballet, jazz, improvisation, and choreography. She became a member of Orchesis Dance Company for 3 yrs where she trained and performed in many styles of dance including modern, hip hop, musical theater, African, and belly dancing. In theatre, she was trained in lighting, stage craft, acting, movement, voice, and directing.
Her performance credits include the Julliard Concert at Texas State, as well as performances in the Dancer's in Flight concerts, Open Door Dance Theatre, Choreographer’s Showcase.
Her choreography credits include the modern dance pieces Make a Difference, which was performed at the 2008 Choreographer's Showcase at Texas State, and Dance With You and Chrysalis Perspective, in which she also performed, at the Dancer's in Flight concert.
Her acting credits include playing the Red Head in The Love Talker and Jean in Visitor from Mamaroneck.
Her directing credits include student directing two plays, Crimes of the Heart and Appeareances.
Debra did her student teaching in fall 2008 at San Marcos High School for dance and theatre, where she observed and taught both dance and theatre classes, and attended and observed dance team practices, pep rallies, and football games. She choreographed for the dance winter show and a student play.
Debra graduated from Texas State University December 2008 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Dance and a minor in Theatre. She is certified to teach Dance (8-12), Theatre (EC-12), and Generalist (EC-4)
After graduating from Texas State University, Debra moved back to West Texas and started teaching at Absolute Dance in Midland. There she taught classes in ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, lyrical and ballroom and choreographed several dances for the 2009 and 2010 dance recitals. She also joined the storm troupers’ student belly dance troupe in 2011.
Debra is thrilled to have opened Dance Expressions in Odessa. She feels fortunate and thankful that God gave to her this love and talent for the beautiful art of dance. Debra has always given 100% in everything that she does and her goal as a dance teacher is to accommodate to each student’s needs, to challenge every student, to demonstrate correct dance technique, and to be caring and positive.
Bobbie Sickler Studio Manager/Teacher
Bobbie Sickler has been dancing since the age of 2. She opened her first studio at the age of 16 and has been teaching ballet, pointe, tap and jazz off and on ever since. She was even Debra's teacher for a few years. She took a break to go to college where she received a BA in English with a minor in Theatre. After which, she pursued a fun and adventurous career in acting.
Now she has two beautiful children and is back to teaching dance and she couldn't be happier!
